TOM OUTLER I have been a photographer of people for about 25 years, and I have been living in Albuquerque for the last 20 of those years. While I have photographed people taking part in all manner of activities, in thousands of different settings, and in all states of clothing, I have focused exclusively of late on producing images composed solely a beautiful, naked human, usually one staring out at the viewer as intensely as the viewer stares in. Abstracting people in this way, from the environment and from all that we hide our bodies and minds behind, allows me to put the viewer in direct contact with the soul of the subject. The viewer’s everyday powers of discrimination and judgment typically suspend, and in their place flows feelings of quiet empathy and calm. In focusing on this type of art I have become more aware of and in contact with myself, and with the universally beautiful human nature within all of us. I can think of no greater thing to become aware of. |
