I was born in Hillsboro, Oregon in 1962, but have extensive family ties to the Southwest. My heritage extends across oceans but my heart is in New Mexico. My family was drawn here at the turn of the century and many of us have come home. Like many artist, I have known from a very early age that I am an artist. Everything I see, my minds eye turns it into art and how I can bring the colors and textures into my own work. However, at age 18 I became a mother and the thrill of being a free-spirited “Starving Artist” was put on hold. Now 26 years later, a wonderful husband and two college graduates, the door that was shut many years ago has reopened. I am greatly inspired by the Santeros and Santeras in the art of Contemporary Spanish Colonial Artwork. I am drawn into the natural beauty and simplicity of these works. Before I create a Retablo, Cross or religious-inspired panel, I research the subject matter fully. The same goes for all my work. The mosaic portion of my work is an extension of the painted or ceramic center piece. Through the short time I have been a mosaic artist, I have developed my own distinct style of Contemporary Spanish Colonial inspired art. Through my work I strive to focus exclusively on the creative process with no regard to market approval or sales.
