Title

MISTY BROWN

Originally from Oklahoma City Oklahoma, I moved to Albuquerque in June of 2000.  I did not start out originally as the artist I am now. I have been everything from dishwasher to prototype equipment tester. A year after moving here, I decided to change careers and break into the IT field. I painted as a private form of expression. Friends finally pushed me to show my work for sale. I’m glad they did!

I was born blind, and only began to see after surgery when I was a teenager, paid for by my local Shriner’s chapter.  I try to put in my work the painful experience of seeing color, light, and edges. It is so beautiful, but it hurts at the same time. I want to share that intensity of going from Dark to Light

A question I hear often is: “Why so many mediums in a single piece?” I use multiple mediums because, sometimes, I want to create the “texture” for my subjects. For example, I like using acrylic to simulate the texture of clothing by stacking several coats of the same color, or using waterproof, lightfast ink to detail fine black lines on top of the dry acrylic.  Art doesn’t have to be seen to be experienced. I coat my paintings in such a way to allow people to touch them.

People also ask why I moved to an acrylic paint medium as opposed to other mediums. Paint is a very rich, wet, tactile medium.  Even though I have sight, nothing ‘looks’ like it feels nothing ‘feels’ like it looks.  I hope you enjoy my work as much as I did creating it.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
