Best known for her whimsical style and vibrant colors, D. A. Sweigart (known to friends as Day) grew up in a family of German Irish wit and fanciful tales. Scared stiff by stories of the bogeyman, the artist learned to thrive on visions from her vivid imagination and turn them into the fanciful Halloween art she is known for today.

Constantly curious about all things and with a penchant for finding humor in the smallest details, Day's art often reflects that aspect of her personality.
"I adore making folks smile. One of my greatest compliments is being told that a painting of mine perfectly captured a familiar expression or made someone laugh with delight. In my world, silly is a GOOD thing!", says the artist.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she grew up thinking there was a dragon across the street that slept inside the hillside. When it thundered during storms, she imagined it was his snoring as he slept, perhaps tossing with troubled dreams (you'd be worried too, if no one believed in you, says Day). "On summer nights, alive with the sparkle of lightning bugs, it seemed as if the countryside was decorated with fairy lights and that I was the only one who saw their true nature. I suppose this fantasy world has followed me into adulthood, infusing my drawings (and life!) with a whimsical side."

Day moved to California in 1974 and feels very blessed to have experienced both lifestyles. "Perhaps that east coast - west coast thing is what caused me to be such a free spirit. It certainly has enhanced my creativity", quips the artist.

Originally a graphic artist working in the printing industry for many years, the artist's portfolio includes works in pen and ink, calligraphy, paintings in both oils and acrylics, and sculpture. She has designed craft kits for the hobby industry and her original paintings have been published as limited edition lithographs.

Halloween has always been D. A. Sweigart's favorite holiday. She credits her lively family and a steady diet of television shows like Dark Shadows, The Twilight Zone, The Night Stalker and Outer Limits for helping to mold her brain into the oddity it is today.

Day asks, "Is it any wonder I became an eccentric Halloween artist? I think not."
